A password-protected directory is a folder which can't be accessed unless the right login details are supplied. This could be a whole site or just one page that's located in a subfolder. If you try to open this sort of a directory, you shall see a web browser pop-up where you have to enter a username as well as a password. If you enter the right ones, you will be able to continue surfing around the content with no need to do anything else. When the login details are not correct, however, you'll see a note that you are not permitted to view the content. In case this function is enabled, you won't be able to open a file even though you may have a direct link. The function is incredibly practical if you'd like to limit the access to some content or if you are developing an Internet site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it prior to it being ready.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting

Creating a password-protected area will take only a couple of mouse clicks and a few seconds if you host your websites inside a shared hosting account with us. You won't have to do anything complex - you'll need to choose a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it should be secured, and then to enter the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. If a number of people need their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to set up numerous different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this feature is enabled. If you would like to deactivate the security function for any folder, you can deactivate it from the exact same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to protect any content you have uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it's a part of, so you will not have to input any code at any time. You'll simply need to select one of the domains/subdomains that you have inside the web hosting account and to select which folder must be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. Then you can type the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be ready. The protection will be turned on immediately, so anyone who attempts to access the freshly secured folder shall have to input the right login details. If several individuals must be able to access precisely the same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
